New Front Rims

 March 2019

My Front Rims were an old design that had been riveted together and were now getting very rusty and quite old, maybe from the 50's!
I had also begun to get some bad wobbling in the steering while driving that I reckon was from the Rims being no longer truly round and moving on the rivets.
After putting on the new Rims I found this was definitely what caused the horrible wheel wobble!

So after my last Tyre change to the new Michelin XZL, I was informed that I should get some new ones.

Here is one of the very rusty Lock Rings

And here can be seen the Rivets and the rust pitting in the old Rim

One of the Rivits showing the rusting around it
One of the old Rims, showing the pitting

So in March 2019 I ordered two new 7.5-20 Rims,
from the French firm Bouzinac

I got them made following the design of the old Rims as I liked the way they had worked, and they had looked excellent on the Truck. The only thing I couldn't get was for them to be Tubeless, but that is not such a problem. Also made sure that I got the Kugelsenkung B3 on the Stud Holes.

And a week later they arrived on a pallet one very rainy spring day

Starting the unpack and first look at my new Rims

Trying out the Rims for size and that everything fits as I wanted

Here can be seen the markings on the Rim and that its nicely centred
Each Rim weighs 45 kg with a load capacity of 3350 kg at 110 km/h

I then removed the Rims and using the flex and a sharp screwdriver, I removed all the old flaking paint from the brake drums.
On the surface that the Rims sit against, I removed all the old paint and rust back to bare steel

I then sprayed a few coats of a 650° temperature proof paint on to the Brake Drum.

My order of what I received

And now secured with the holding rings
Getting the Wheels Balanced to eliminate any chance of wobbling in the steering.

I was shortly on my way home, when my friend Boris recommended that I go back and get them
balanced to eliminate any chance of wobbling.
  Very happy that I did

These are the different values I got on the wheel Balancing jig

Mounted and looking good !!!

Newly painted Hub sitting on the jack with an Axle Stand as safety behind

All New Limesrings and some New Wheel Nuts, replacing some that were worn out

Replacing the Spare Wheel back under the Truck, that Id been using to support the truck while the
  Rims were removed

Final tightening of the Wheel Nuts
