New Kitchen Shelves & Fridge

January - June 2020

I needed to sort out some of my kitchen, and it started with building some Spice shelves. I then bought an electric 12V compressor fridge that I needed to build in.

It started with building a door to the battery box storage that needed to be closed in.

Gluing the thin boards to the frame

When finished I glued some 1 cm² Neodymium magnets into holes I'd drilled in the door
that lined up with screw heads. This is how I keep it closed.

The seat covers also got a makeover at this time to some nice green velvet.

I also put hinges on the seat back, giving me access behind it to use the space.
Here I'm putting in slates so that it is kept airy as in winter it gets quite warm from the fire.

So then it was on with building my new Spice Shelves.
I'd already added some more shelving to the back of the food cupboard and now found some little spaces that fitted well the small glass jars that I'd collected for Spices.

Already have two built in and starting on the third one. I used only glue to hold them together.

Working outside in the winter sun.

Completed!

Next up I build a new box that I will keep my plates in and beside that a small area for storage.

The Fridge

I had been using an Absorber Fridge for many years, and it had worked very well for me except for few things.
In the sommer when the temperatures got high the fridge could only keep my food about 20° below the ambient temperature.
Also, I would go through a gas bottle every 4 to 6 weeks.

So just before sommer really hit in I bought myself a 12V  Dometic CRX 110 Compressor Fridge.
It has a Total storage capacity of 107.5 Liter
Divided as 98 Liter Fridge storage volume and
9.5 Liter Freezer storage volume
At 25 °C it uses about 360W in 24 Hours.

I then got some Styrodur and covered the top, back and one side to help with keeping it cooler.

Then I cut a hole in the Truck, so I could lead a ventilation tube to the back of the cooling fan.
It took some working out where to put the hole due to the House steel framing almost right where I wanted to make the hole.
This allows cooler air than what is in the Truck.
I also re wired with heavier gauge 16 mm²wire and a new fuse.

I found a nice copper grill that came with a mosquito net behind it

I'm very happy with the results, and now I've a constant temperature in my fridge.
It does make some sound but so little that I hardly hear it, especially when trying to sleep.
